Kid Tested Crafts:
Our Favorite Playdough Recipes
Soap Dough 2 cups flour 1/2 cup salt 2 Tbsp. liquid tempera 1 Tbsp. liquid soap 1/2 cup water Mix all the dry ingredients together. In a seperate bowl, mix the soap, tempera, and water. Add the water to the dry mixture. Knead until pliable.
Gluey Dough 1 cup of flour 1 cup of cornstarch 1/2 cup white glue 1/2 cup water Mix flour, cornstarch, and glue. Slowly add just enough water to make a dough. Knead until soft and pliable.
NWCS Rainbow Stew 1/3 cup sugar 1 cup cornstarch 4 cups cold water red, blue, and yellow food coloring Cook over medium heat, stirring until thick. Divide into three parts. Add red food coloring to one, blue to another, and yellow to another. Place all three into one ziplock bag and shut tight! Reinforce with duct tape. Have fun mixing! This is a good way to teach the secondary colors.
NWCS Blubber Mix together: 2 cups of glue 2 cups of water In a sperate bowl, mix: 1 Tbsp. Borax soap 1 cup of water Combine and mix together until it forms a solid blubber form. Have fun! This is supposed to resemble whale blubber- I dare you not to play with it!
Famous NWCS Playdough- the good old- fashioned kind 2 cups of water 2 cups of flour 4 tsp. cream of tartar or alum 1 cup of salt 1 Tbsp. oil food coloring Mix ingredients and cook over medium heat until it forms a ball. Knead until smooth. Try putting peanut butter in your play dough. Or peppermint oil. Or cinnamon oil. Or colored sand. Or grated crayons. Or cocoa powder. Or cornmeal. (Please submit any unusual ideas you may have to our ongoing list.)
