Northwest Children's School

What's happening at School
WINTER
There have been a lot of happenings going on at school lately. We find this time of the year is always the busiest, with pre-registration, holidays, field trips, and parent-teacher conferences.
Our Preschool classes just had their in-classroom Beach Day – bathing suits, surfboards, barbecue, and all (There is NO end to our teachers’ imaginations ) Coming up is a field trip to the Post Office to mail family valentines, a Hot Chocolate Day, where we will learn about everybody’s favorite foods, and a field trip to the Dentist Also, basic skill reviews take place during the winter months. We have spent time working with the alphabet puppets Inky Inchworm (I), Jolly Jogger (J), and Kicky Kangaroo (K), continued with Loony Lion (L), Merry Mouse (M), and we just met Noisy Newt (N) We truly have some wonderful Preschool classes and our teachers are the best!
The Pre-Kindergarten students are busy learning about the winter season while strengthening their basic skills. They will see a Children’s Theater live performance, celebrate a Penguin Day and Pajama Day, and explore a Weather unit, a Dinosaurs unit, and a Space unit. They do experiments with crystals and ice, along with a host of other fun activities, including making bird feeders for school and to take home.
SPRING

The Pre-Kindergartners will be watching caterpillars spin cocoons and turn into butterflies. The bird feeders are outside attracting the first signs of spring. Field trips will include the Children’s Museum, even a trip to the Woodland Park Zoo to visit our adopted animal!
The Preschoolers will enjoy a Teddy Bear Day, a Hat Day, and a unit on Mice (where we all taste different cheeses), and a special trip to the Forest Park Petting Zoo It is always very rewarding to see the children's growth and development throughout the school year. Both programs will enjoy the final alphabet letter puppets as the school year comes to a close.

SUMMER
Summer at NW Children's School: Have you heard about it? Our special summer program is for 3-6 year olds. We have two separate sessions! The first is on "The Great Outdoors!" The second is on "Sea Life and the Ocean!" Both prove to be a lot of fun and educational too! The great outdoors, we will be learning about safety outside in the different weather climates. We will also learn about camping and hiking. We will be taking a trip to Kayak Point, Wenberg State Park, Jetty Island, and who knows where else! We will have lots of music, snacks, puppet shows, and maybe even some surprise guests! We will make lots of new friends, learn some new skills, and enjoy the great NW summer mornings.
